About Mike Austin

Mike brings more than 20 years of software licensing experience and software asset management skills to his clients’ projects. Mike worked for Microsoft for almost 10 years and has assisted companies of all sizes, from Fortune 500 companies to organizations with just a few hundred employees. He has also orchestrated the negotiations of software contracts from all the major software vendors: Microsoft, IBM, SAP, Adobe, and Oracle, just to name a few.  He is most noted in the industry for his experience in helping clients reduce the costs of their Microsoft Enterprise Agreements (EA), but has taken his proven methodology and data driven approach and put it into practice to assist in reducing costs of all software contracts. He has a vast amount of experience across multiple industries including financial services, high tech, manufacturing, media, health care, government, and retail. In addition to helping negotiate contracts, he assists clients with creating and implementing software asset management processes to prevent the over-purchasing of licenses and ensures terms and conditions reflect actual usage.  Mike uses a data driven approach (inventory, software contract language) to empower clients with the knowledge required to put clients in the driver’s seat of any negotiation.

To negotiate software contracts successfully, most people would need the skills and background of an IT Procurement Head, an IT Manager, a Lawyer, and a Finance wiz combined.  Sadly, most people don’t have experience in each of these areas.
